Marissa Johnson serves as Of Counsel in support of the Firm’s Customs & Import Controls Practice. Marissa has nearly 15 years of customs and international trade experience. She gained valuable experience before law school, first working at a leading trade advisory services company, then serving in customs and trade specialist roles with international automotive companies while attending law school. Marissa works remotely from Detroit.
Marissa advises US and non-US companies across an array of industries such as automotive, textiles, and various manufacturing industries, regarding tariff classification and valuation compliance, including discount agreements, related party transactions, assists, and royalties, including high-value prior disclosures.
Her past experience includes work on matters involving the American Automotive Labeling Act (AALA), CBP Focused Assessments and audits, Free Trade Agreement and other preferential duty programs, Foreign Trade Zones, Importer Self-Assessment Program (ISA), steel licenses, and building multiple databases critical to duty-savings and analyses. different languages and legal systems.
